#36 / Chromatica: The Kaleidoscope Chronicles
or Harmony's canvas: unveiling the hidden tales of color
I wrote another short story on color. Procrastination is my worst or best enemy; sometimes ideas converge. Let me know what you think. :)
Very G-rated with some adult inspired thoughts.
Once upon a time, in a world much like our own, colors were not merely shades and hues, but living beings with vibrant personalities and hidden lives. They resided in a realm called Chromatica, a realm invisible to human eyes but intimately connected to our world. While most people marveled at the vibrant hues of the rainbow and used colors to express their emotions and create art, little did they know that colors had their own stories to tell; they were living entities with unique personalities, desires, and destinies.
At the heart of Chromatica, there was a grand castle made entirely of pure, shimmering white light. This castle was the residence of the King and Queen of Colors, Chromius and Chromia. They were the custodians of all the colors in the world and responsible for maintaining the harmony and balance between them.
Each color had its own dwelling within Chromatica. They had their own community and purpose. The primary colors—Red, Blue, and Yellow—were revered as the foundation of all colors. They held great power and influence, each embodying distinct characteristics. Red, Blue, and Yellow lived in magnificent palaces adorned with their respective shades. They were the foundations of all other colors, giving birth to a myriad of secondary and tertiary hues.
Red, a fiery and passionate color, was known for its fierce nature and strong emotions. It was a natural leader among colors, representing power and vitality and love. Blue, on the other hand, embodied calmness, serenity, and intellect. Its palace shimmered like the ocean on a sunny day, inviting tranquility and wisdom in its endless skies. Yellow, the color of sunshine and happiness, resided in a palace that radiated warmth and joy, infusing the entire realm with its cheerful energy and abundant optimism. Its kingdom sparkled with golden fields and vibrant sunflowers.
As time passed, the primary colors formed deep connections and gave birth to a myriad of secondary and tertiary colors. These colors inhabited their own unique regions within Chromatica that embodied creativity and expression. Green, born from the love of Yellow and Blue, thrived in lush forests, nurturing life and representing harmony. Orange arrived from the passion of Red and Yellow. Orange resided in a realm of warmth and passion and a zest for life. Purple, a mystical union of Red and Blue, dwelled in a land of enchantment and spirituality, exploring the depths of imagination, wisdom and dreams.
Colors led fascinating lives beyond what human eyes could perceive. They had spirited conversations. They spoke of their influence on emotions and memories. They debated who adorned art and design better, and how they literally transformed environments with their presence.
At night, when the human world was wrapped in slumber, the colors embarked on magical journeys. They ventured into dreams, whispering vivid shades and imbuing them with meaning and symbolism. They danced among the stars, painting the sky with radiant strokes of beauty. They even visited painters and artists, whispering inspiration and guiding their brushes to create masterpieces that would touch the souls of those who beheld them.
Beyond their enchanting adventures, the colors of Chromatica had an important mission. They understood the delicate balance they held within the human world. They knew that colors had the power to heal, to ignite passion, and to uplift spirits. They worked tirelessly to create harmony and convey messages of hope, love, and joy through their vibrant expressions.
But the colors longed to venture beyond their assigned roles. They yearned to explore the world and understand what it meant to be seen and felt by human beings. One day, they gathered in a hidden realm, name-we-cannot-speak, and they devised a plan to temporarily abandon their assigned objects and blend together to create a new color - an ethereal shade known as “Harmony”. This new color had the ability to change its appearance and embody multiple emotions simultaneously.
Harmony embarked on a solo adventure into the human world. It traveled through bustling cities, vast landscapes, peaceful meadows, witnessing the interactions between colors and humans. It was along this journey that Harmony met an artist named Mia.
Mia was a painter who had lost her inspiration and struggled to express her emotions on the canvas. One day, while sitting in her studio, she noticed a shimmering, iridescent color emanating from her paint palette. Intrigued, she dipped her brush into this hue and began to create. As Mia painted, she felt a new connection to her emotions. She poured her hopes, fears, and dreams onto the surface. Harmony smiled.
Meanwhile, back in Chromatica a bit of a tête-à-tête was developing. And not in a good way. The colors of the world started arguing. Grandiosity had set in. There was surfacing an unbalance, resulting in disharmony and chaos. Red invoking its dominance was igniting anger and aggression. Blue feeling completely overwhelmed slid into sadness and melancholy. At the same time Yellow’s exuberance went unchecked and became reckless and impulsive. Chaos in Chromatica had never happened before!
King Chromius and Queen Chromia called together a council of colors. Equilibrium needs to be restored! Harmony needed to be called back to Chromatica and help realign at once. Harmony mysteriously heard the cry for help. She whispered into Mia’s ear and then cheerfully returned to Chromatica.
Delighted at Harmony’s return, all the colors exploded with mindful chatter. They started communicating and shared their collective wisdom. Collaboration between them encouraged discovery and uncovered ways to blend and complement each other instead of the endless building of mud. Harmony understood that restoring balance and serenity to all colors was key to the future vitality of humans.
Harmony’s words to Mia were engraved, in the color Harmony of course, at the Castle: “Every stroke of a brush, stroke of a pen, and every glance at a sunset or flower holds the potential to unveil the secret life of colors – a captivating world where emotions, dreams and stories merge into a magnificent symphony of hues.”
Remember, the next time you gaze upon a sunset or marvel at a rainbow, know that the colors around you are not just characteristics of light but living, breathing entities that touch our lives in profound ways. Colors are the guardians of our emotions, the bringers of joy, and the silent storytellers of our world.
I love this so much! Thank you for writing it and sharing. Whatever you were 'supposed' to be doing instead was well enough left alone for the time.
Beautiful! Inspiring! And so harmonious...
